Configuring Mozilla Thunderbird

NOTE: These instructions are for Mozilla Thunderbird ver. 1.5.0.2. If you are using an earlier version of Netscape you should upgrade to Thunderbird. Go to http://www.mozilla.com/ to get Mozilla Thunderbird.

  • Click "Tools", "Account Settings..."

  • Click the "Add Account" button

  • Select "Email account " and click "Next"

  • Type your name and your e-mail address in the corresponding input areas and click "Next"

  • Select the "IMAP" radio button, type jaguar1.usouthal.edu in the server name input area, and click "Next"

  • Type your username in the input area. This is also referred to as your login and should be all lowercase. It should match what precedes the @ symbol in your e-mail address. Click "Next"

  • For "Account Name:" type what you want to name this email profile. You can use your first name, nickname, email address, etc. Click "Next"

  • Click "Finish"

  • In the tree view on the left of the Account settings window select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)". In the panel on the right, make the following settings

    • Click "Add"
    • Description: <your name>
    • Server Name: jaguar1.usouthal.edu
    • Port: 587
    • User name and password: checked
    • User name: <your user name>
    • User secure connection: TLS, if available
    • Click "OK"
    • Click "Set Default"
